Alpine skiing, commonly known as downhill skiing, is a rigorous outdoor sporting and recreational activity filled with action-packed athletics, excitement and enjoyment. Skiing challenges multiple skills including coordination, balance, courage and confidence while fostering a love for the outdoors.
The Hermitage Club Training Center will be focused on youth development in Alpine Ski Racing. Children in the program will be coached in small groups consisting of kids within their age range with one coach dedicated to their improvement as all-mountain skiers and as young racers.
Each weekend the program will involve focused free skiing, private gate training, video review, and after skiing activities such as field games, recovery workouts, and ski tuning clinics.
Our athletes will train every weekend (Saturday and Sunday) and will have the option of one-on-one training on Fridays, something no other program in Vermont offers. Additionally, during holiday weeks when the mountain is open there will be training every day. While most mountains offer 10-15 training runs per day, The Hermitage offers 25-30 runs, so your training is maximized.
The Hermitage Club Training Center Athletes will compete in the Southern Vermont Council (SVC). This is a series of races hosted by Southern Vermont ski areas that have race programs, such as Stratton, Bromley, Magic, Mt. Snow, and Willard. After this series concludes, racers who qualify can progress on to State, Regional, and even National events.
The tentative start date of the race program will be December 21st depending on the weather, and the program will finish March 30th, also subject to change due to snow conditions.
Children who want to be a part of the program must know how to ski confidently down the mountain on their own. Children also must be age 7 to 18.
This fee includes all training, full access to gates, coaches, video, and tuning clinics. Race entry fees not included, to be collected on the day of the race at registration.
