At the Hermitage Club Childcare, we provide safety, fun, and learning for children six months through four years. Our high quality facility is filled with a bright, sunlit, and homey atmosphere, and is a three star rated facility through Vermont’s step ahead quality recognition system. Our teachers are caring, professional, and highly trained in early childhood development and education. Join us this winter for a day of new experiences and lots of fun play!

Ski-and-Play: Ages 3 and 4

Join us for a full day of playing and learning with our highly educated and trained preschool teachers. Our classroom is located in the Hermitage Clubhouse, on the lower level floor.

This program may be right for your child if they are used to a preschool classroom schedule and prefer a short rest time in the afternoon. Many of our children are not familiar with outdoor play and have never skied before. We strive to create a love of nature and outdoor activities and snowsports through positive exposure and lots of fun!

Daily Schedule

8:30-9am Drop off
9-10am Centers, free time, morning meeting, and snack
10am-Noon Ski-and-Play Lesson: gross motor and foundational work, no lifts used
Noon Lunch
1-2pm Story time and rest period
2-3:pm Learning centers: math, reading, writing, science, fine motor
3:00-3:30pm Afternoon snack
3:30-4:30pm Outdoor exploration, dramatic play, or other group activity
4:30pm Parent pick up

What to Bring

Change of clothes, winter jacket, sweatshirt or thermal layer, snowpants, waterproof mitten or gloves, insulated winter boots, warm socks, winter hat, helmet and goggles (not required), diapers and wipes (if applicable).

Infant & Toddler

Our infant and toddler childcare program will encourage natural interactions with peers while making sure that children are supported and well cared for. Activities like arts and crafts, music, group games, construction, dramatic play, outdoor exploration, nature play, and many more make up our fun and exciting daily schedule.

With small group sizes and multiple, highly trained staff caring for your child, you can be assured that your infant or toddler will have a safe, enjoyable, and fun day. We treat each child as an individual, and focus on meaningful interactions to provide the best possible care throughout the day.

Summer Camp

With small group sizes and lots of individual attention during lessons and instruction, your child is sure to form lasting relationships with fellow campers and counselors. Every day is packed full of exciting, high-quality experiences that help to shape your child’s confidence, endurance, self-esteem, teamwork and appreciation for nature and the outdoors.

Our Cancellation Policy

Once you receive a confirmation email for your reservation, you must cancel at least 72 hours in advance to receive a full refund. To cancel a reservation, please email jkoehler@hermitageclub.com. Cancelations made less than 72 hours (3 days) in advance will not receive a refund. No shows and forfeited reservations will not receive a refund.

Meals: Snacks are provided at 9:30am and 2:30pm. Lunch is provided at 12pm. If your child has severe food allergies or dietary restrictions/special needs please call/email jkoehler@hermitageclub.com or 802-464-4334 at least 72 hours prior to your reservation to make sure we can accommodate your needs. Our childcare is a nut free facility. Please keep this in mind when packing any snacks.

Outdoor Play and Ski-and-Play Lesson:

We believe that outdoor play is important for every child, every day. Please do not request that your child stay inside, as we are not staffed for one-to-one care and will not be able to accommodate your request. If you feel as though your child is not well-enough to play outside, then they are not well-enough to participate in our program that day. Infants are cared for based on their individual needs and are not subject to our outside policy.

Drop off/Pick up Policy: Please drop your children off between 8:30am and 9:00am. After 9:00am, your reservation will not be guaranteed and may be forfeit. A parent or legal guardian will be required to fill out a childcare registration form with emergency and medical information. Pick up time is no later 4:30pm. There is a fee of $1/minute per child for picking up after 4:30pm. Only individuals indicated on the childcare registration form with proof of identification may pick-up children.

General Center Policies

Our childcare is a nut free facility.

Snacks are provided at 9:30am and 2:30pm. Lunch is provided at 12pm. If your child has severe food allergies or dietary restrictions/special needs please call/email jkoehler@hermitageclub.com or 802-464-4334 72 hours prior to your reservation to make sure we can accommodate your needs.

If the mountain and lifts are closed due to inclement weather (wind, ice, etc.), the childcare center will remain open along other clubhouse operations. For this reason, no refunds will be issued if the mountain and lifts are closed due to weather.

Safe Practices

  • We have dedicated, friendly caregivers who are trained in child development, early-childhood education or a related field.
  • We conduct employee background checks and reference checks to ensure trustworthy staff and passionate teachers provide the best care and education for your child.
  • Our staff and teachers are trained in first aid and CPR. Our director is a Red Cross certified lifeguard.
  • All children attending our program must be in good health, or have a doctor’s note stating symptoms are not contagious.
  • We notify parents when a child does not feel.
  • A parent is required to pick-up their child if illness includes: fever, rash, diarrhea, or vomiting. Exceptions are made only with a physician’s note. Children must be fever free without medication for 24 hours prior to coming to our program.
  • We clean our center each day with a state regulated bleach to water solution.
  • Cleaning supplies are locked safely out of reach of children.
  • We sanitize toys throughout the day to help prevent the spread of germs.
  • We encourage children to wash their hands throughout the day by singing songs and teaching lessons about health and hygiene.
  • Diapering is conducted in an area separate from children’s play areas.
  • All perishable food is refrigerated.
  • We welcome breastfeeding mothers, and follow best practice for handling breast milk.
  • We are a “nut-free” program.
  • We are serious about training for emergency safety situations, and practice monthly.
  • We have an emergency evacuation plan and regularly test and train so our staff are ready.
  • The childcare Director and Assistant Director are trained are trained in first aid and CPR for children and infants. All childcare workers follow a written response protocol for handling emergency situations.
  • The potential for accidents and injuries does exist. We investigate, document, and report all accidents and injuries.

Please provide staff with your child’s name, date of birth, dates requested, your email address, and any special information you’d like to share about your child.

Our facility is rated three stars through Vermont’s quality recognition system. Our facility is licensed under the Vermont regulations for Center Based Childcare and Preschool Programs (CBCCPP). A copy of the Vermont regulations is available here.
